NY Auto Insurance No Fault
No-Fault is otherwise known as Personal Injury Protection in New York State
Let’s say your driving down a standard Upstate New York suburban road in Winter.
Now picture the standard Upstate NY Winter weather windy, cold, wet and your driving at a conservative 40 mph because you are a responsible adult.
As you approach home, you maneuver a bend in the road you’ve driven a thousand times before when suddenly you start to slide on black ice. A heartbeat later, you wake up in a hospital bed to realize you have injuries to left side of your body from the tree that hit your driver’s side door at 40 mph.
These types of accidents are very common in New York. We have a lot trees and a lot of ice, making this type of accident a very realistic possibility in our world.
When you wake in the hospital banged up from a car accident,is that really the time you want to be worried about paying hospital bills and recouping lost wages from time missed at work?
In New York State your NY auto insurance no fault coverage or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage pays for medical expenses and lost wages from a car accident for every person in your car.
Currently, New York auto insurance no fault coverage is mandatory at $50,000 per person, per accident.
However, NY Personal Injury Protection coverage can be maxed out at $150,000 per person, per accident. If you add in Other Basic Economic Loss or OBEL coverage you can have a total of $175,000 in NY auto insurance no fault coverage per person, per accident.
When the WORST happens, who gives a crap about the cost difference between $250, $500 or $1,000 deductible…
What you better be damn sure of is your No-Fault benefits are maxed out at $175,000.
